As a debutant director, Pavan Kumar commits some forgivable mistakes but the pandemic movie-watching culture brings those to glaring light. Unless the audience feels it’s worth sharing recycled air with strangers, with mask on, at a theatre, Merise Merise might not have a chance.
Director Pravin Kumar tried something new with Merise Merise. This is not a routine romantic and youthful entertainer. It did not have a typical romance between hero and heroine. Pravin highlighted the hero's failures, the heroine's aspirations, and how the hero with his experience through failures guides the heroine realizes her dreams by overcoming her difficulties. the one dialogue from the venture capitalist that he is investing in heroine's project seeing hero because he gained experience through his failures sums up the story. Merise Merise is the sincere effort to send some message to the youngsters but lack of experience undid the good attempt.
Merise Merise has elements of love, comedy and emotions. The film has some feel good and emotional scenes that impress the audience. However, while the concept is good, there are not enough interesting scenes to make for an engaging watch. Especially, the hero-heroine track was dealt with in a dramatic manner. On the whole, even though the film might impress family audiences to an extent, it might disappoint the rest.
